Abstract :
The electrical system disturbance in the Cerme unit lies in a significant decrease in power factor with a fairly high percentage, this is probably caused by an increase in reactive power capacity so that the power factor decreases. According to the results obtained in the field, the power factor value is 0.73 which is too low so that the PDAM pays a penalty of 5500 kVAR, to avoid being subject to reactive power fines by PLN, it is necessary to improve the power factor by increasing it from 0, 73 into a power factor of 0.9 so that the induction motor can work efficiently. In order to prevent a significant decrease in the power factor which can affect the equipment, a capacitor bank is installed according to the needs in the Cerme unit. In getting the calculation results to compensate for the excess reactive power of 10 kVAR for 10 induction motors with 3 400kW motors and 3 75Kw motors and 4 200kW motors, capacitors are installed in parallel circuits. After the capacitor is installed, there is no more excess reactive power so that the power factor is normal and does not cause damage to the induction motor.
