Abstract :
When the power transformer is first energized, there will be an initial current that exceeds the nominal current of the power transformer, this current is called the inrush current. The inrush current is caused by an increase in the magnetic flux, which causes the winding current to increase. Excessive inrush current can cause the current transformer to saturate and cause the protection relay to be unreliable. The inrush current that occurs in the power transformer is modeled and simulated using the simulink program in the MATLAB application. From modeling and simulation, the inrush current that occurs is 15 times greater than the nominal current. The largest inrush current occurs in the R phase with a value of 3476.5A, and occurs for 0.203s. The CCT and OCT simulation results show that both types of CT are not saturated. From the calculation results, the CCT excitation current is 0.0015A, this is below the knee point of 0.0345A, so the CCT is able to work well when an inrush current occurs. While the resulting graph from the OCT simulation is very good at reading inrush currents. Based on the Over Current Relay (OCR) setting, for the incoming 20kV side, the pickup current is 1905.255A with a td of 0.60523s. As for the 150kV bay side, the pickup current is 254.034A with a td of 0.8992s. From this result, the OCR will not experience a trip error due to the inrush current.
