Abstract :
In electricity, insulators play an important role for electrical equipment in order to separate a live conductor conductor from a non-voltage conductor. Several factors can affect the quality of an insulator, one of which is weather and pollutants. Pollutants in the test in the form of moderate dust, moss and also salt water (40 grams) and can be affected by weather, for example rain. The purpose of this study is to find out how the characteristics of plate insulators made of glass and composite insulators are against pollutants and weather variables. The method used in this research is withstand test and discharge test. The result of the withstand test being tested is the resistance of the plate insulator made of glass at a voltage of 20 kV with a time of 60 seconds, where in rainy conditions in the presence of salt pollutants this insulator is not able to withstand the value of leakage current that is not detected because before 20 kV the insulator made of glass plates already had a flashover. For composite insulators that are resistant to all weather and pollutants at 20 kV with a time of 60 seconds. The results of the test of the lowest voltage discharge are in the rain with salt pollutants where the voltage is 10.67 kV with a leakage current of 8.364 mA. For composite insulators, the discharge voltage is more than 90 kV.
