Abstract :
Power transformers in a substation have an important role in electrical systems. In order for transformers to work continuously under normal conditions, protection is required on the transformer to protect the transformer from all kinds of interference, both from short circuit and overload. At the beginning of 2021 the transformers at Panakkukang Substation experienced a disturbances in one of the feeders for 110 ms with a fault current 7000 A because several NGR (Neutral Ground Resistor) insulator were damaged and touched the body so that the large fault current exceeded the nominal current limit. As a result of this disturbances, several protection relay trips, one of which is OCR and GFR. To ensure that the relay is up to standard so that it can work properly, a reset calculation is carried out. And then to test or make sure that calculation is correct, it will be simulated on the ETAP (Electric Transient and Anlaysis Program) software. Where in this simulation will be given a short circuit and see the relay coordination system as protection on the transformers. Before calculating the relay setting, it will be searched first for the value of short circuit interference current. From the calculation results the value of a single phase short circuit fault current is 278.63 A with a time setting of 0.96 seconds on the incoming side and 0.68 seconds on the outgoing side. Meanwhile, the 3- phase short circuit fault current is 12483.24 A with a time settingt of 1.06 seconds on the incoming side and 0.68 on the outgoing side. In the event of a short circuit the protection on the outgoing side becomes the main protection and the incoming side as the backup protection when the outgoing side fails to work.
