Abstract :
The function of the insulator is in good condition to separate areas that have the potential to have electrical energy from parts that do not have potential for electrical energy, but if the dielectric strength weakens, it will cause insulation failure marked by a leakage current, usually marked by the emergence of a flashover phenomenon, even to the point of a flashover voltage that can damage the insulator. The title of this research is "EFFECT OF AIR CONTAMINATION AND UV LIGHT ON THE QUALITY OF THE DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF GLASS INSULATORS". The purpose of this study was to determine the value of the leakage current using the Withstand Test method with a voltage of 20 kV for 2 minutes, as well as the value of flashover voltage on the glass insulator with a variable influence in the form of ultraviolet radiation in units of hours for 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, The next variable is the effect of carbon monoxide (CO) gas content from burning charcoal and coconut shells in ppm units of 155, 200, 250, 270, 360, and the effect of deposits attached to the surface in units of 1, 2, 3 mm thick and on the effect of variable carbon gas content Monoxide (CO) smoke from the combustion of 2-wheeled vehicles in ppm units is 673, 736, 760 783, 791. Based on the test with the above variables, it is known that the flashover voltage decreases but the leakage current increases.
