Abstract :
A failure occured at reheater tube of steam power plant. The failure of the pipe occured fish ? mouth effect. Tube experienced overheating. Side of tube showed thick deposite that cause the heat effect in an hotspot. The material of tube was carbon alloy steel Cr-Mo. Several tests were done to find out how failure could happen, i.e. visual observation, hardness testing, thickness testing, metal chemical composition testing, metallography testing, and SEM ? EDX. Results showed microvoids and microcracks of microstructure, thin thickness from 3,93 mm to 2,34 mm at failure area, hardness value increased from 124 HV to 156 HV at failure area and 318 µm thick scales contained chlorine 1.436 % and sodium 1.893 % which are estimated from seawater
