Abstract :
On January 17, 2018 at 17.23 WIB, a steam leak was found at Banten 3 power plant in Lontar, 3 units on 8th floor, sea side. On January 27, 2018, Unit 3 stops due to the increasing leakage and trending usage of make up water which has increased, to avoid problems due to leakage on the Tube Boiler and to avoid excessive use of make up water then Unit 3 stop. A primary superheater pipe from boiler unit 3 has failed in the form of rupturing the pipe with the shape of a fish mouth. To find out the cause of the failure of the primary superheater tube, studies and studies were carried out which included observations in the field carried out visually and analysis of several tests such as, thichness testing to determine the thickness of the pipe in the damaged part, chemical composition test (OES) to determine whether the chemical composition was according to the standards, metallographic testing to determine the microstructure, SEM-EDAX test to see the topography or exposure of the material form of the primary superheater tube tested and the chemical constituents contained in the primary superheater tube, and hardness testing with the Vickers Hardness method.
