Abstract :
In the PLTU there are important components, namely the superheater, which is a component of the boiler to raise the temperature of the steam which will lead to the turbine, reducing moisture and wet steam. Superheater that works at high temperature and pressure for a long time can cause damage in the form of leakage and erosion. Material selection errors are an example of why many components have malfunctioned. The selection of the right material is very influential in the successful operation of the material application, so this study aims to determine the elements contained in the material by carrying out a testing activity including testing chemical composition, metallography and hardness. From the results of metallographic testing on specimens in the form of fibrous pearlite and ferrite structures, the results of testing the chemical composition of Superheater Tubes have four main alloying elements, namely Carbon (C) 0.084% Manganese (Mn) 0.605%, Phosphorus (P) 0.009%, and Sulfur (S) 0.006%, from the results of the hardness test obtained, that is the average value of 89 HRB. This value exceeds the standard set which is equal to 85 HRB. This hardness correlates with the resistance which is very close to the stresses that occur in the material, so the Tube Superheater material is easily cracked.
