Abstract :
The AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel is widely used for industrial and manufacturing equipment. The behavior of this type of stainless steel can be improved in various ways, one of which is by providing surface coating with Ni / Ni-SiC coating. This study aims to determine the coating system and mechanical properties by evaluating the strength of the coating. This research was conducted using AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel material, 12 cm long, 6 cm wide and 2 mm thick and 500 g / l of nickel sulfate, 100 g / l boric acid, and 90 g / l of nickel chloride at a temperature of 45 - 55 ? as a mixture of Ni coatings. And the electroplating process with a current density of 1.5 A/?dm?^2 is the duration of the 1 hour coating process. The duty cycle used is 80% and the pulse frequency is 100 Hz, after the electroplating process the sample is put in a heating oven with 4 temperature variations, 100 ?, 300 ?, 500 ?, and 700 ?. For 30 minutes holding time and with room temperature (air) cooling media. And testing of mechanical properties was carried out by hardness testing. Then to find out the strength of the adhesion on the coating layer, the mechanical properties of the pull off adhesion test were carried out and to find out the thickness of the coating was done by metallography. The results showed that the higher the temperature variation given, the coating layer the compound with the workpiece coated by Ni / Ni-SiC. The best mechanical properties are temporarily 700 ? with a hardness of 217.54 HB (Hardness Brinell) and a pull off adhesion test value of 6.8 MPa.
