Abstract :
This study aims to create a system for determining the thesis supervisor at the PLN Institute of Technology majoring in Informatics Engineering, which currently determines the supervising lecturer in a simple way by filling out the form provided by the department, then determined by the Head of Study Program (Head of Study Program). This research uses the development of the waterfall method. The method used by the author is the text mining method, TF-IDF and Vector Space Model. The application of text mining is used to analyze data obtained from the thesis title. The application of TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inserve Document Frequency) and VSM (Vector Space Model) is used to classify the appropriate supervisor between the thesis title and the field / expertise of the lecturer based on the match between the thesis title and the competence of the lecturer. In the test conducted by the author using 54 documents in the form of a thesis title with various categories of Informatics Engineering majors, 5 of which have incorrect values. so that an accuracy value of 90.74% is obtained
