Abstract :
Indonesia is a country that has enormous energy potential, one of which has conventional energy that can be used to produce electricity through a steam power plant (PLTU). One of the power plants that uses conventional energy is the Suralaya power plant that uses coal fuel. PLTU Suralaya has 7 units, with units 1-4 with a capacity of 400 MW and Unit 5-7 with a capacity of 600 MW. One of the most important components of the Suralaya PLTU is a boiler. Boilers are one of the main components of a PLTU whose function is to convert water into steam by heating through the burning of fuel in the combustion chamber. The fuel used for the combustion process is coal fuel. Suralaya PLTU is one of the power plants that uses subbitumus coal. In this study the conditions before overhaul use barubara with a calorific value of 5147 kcal / kg and in conditions after overhaul using coal with a calorific value of 5118 kcal / kg. This research was conducted to determine and evaluate boiler performance at PLTU Suaralaya Unit 5 based on operational data before and after the overhaul. The data collected was obtained from PLTU Suralaya. The data is then used to calculate boiler efficiency which includes the analysis of the results of calculations before and after the overhaul using calculations with heat loss methods with ASME PTC standards 4.1. From the results of boiler efficiency calculations before overhaul of 86,0053% and efficiency after overhaul of 83,081%. This means experiencing a decrease in boiler efficiency by 2.924% due to factors from the use of coal of different qualities
