Abstract :
Blind people are individuals who experience visual impairment (vision is one of the five main senses of humans), and loss of vision prevents people from fully developing independently in their daily activities. The inability to recognize or identify people while at home or when there is a meeting will cause discomfort for the visually impaired especially when people in the area do not speak much. This research was conducted to help blind people recognize the people around them by using the Viola Jones method. Viola Jones face detection method is an object detection method that combines Haar-like Features, Integral images, AdaBoost Machine-Learning, and Cascading Classifiers using small sets of positive trained images. The results of this study indicate that the face detection system with Viola Jones method can detect with an accuracy of 80%. This detection system is applied to android smartphones that can be used easily to create output in the form of speech which is more suitable for the visually impaired to use
