Abstract :
Attendance monitoring is one of the factors to improve the quality of learning, but
currently the attendance of learning participants still has many shortcomings that
can be manipulated. In addition teachers have obstacles in supervising all
participants learning in class, this is due to the limited ability of the instructor
himself. This can cause the quality of learning to be less good. Attendance
monitoring using a camera for facial recognition can be a solution to reduce the
attendance attendance of learning participants. In this study does not examine
supervision in real time from the beginning of entering the classroom to leaving
the classroom, but this study only examined when entering and leaving the
classroom. For face recognition using the Viola Jones method by utilizing an
image processing library that serves as the basis for processing image detection
in faces. While in the process of facial recognition the method used is Eigenface.
In this study, the face detection and face recognition testing is carried out based
on several conditions that may affect the accuracy of the detection and face
recognition. These factors include the effect of light intensity, face position, the
addition of accessories, the number of faces and the distance of the face to the
camera. The test results show the acquisition of a face detection accuracy rate
of 92.3%, while the face recognition accuracy rate of 83.3%. From both methods
can be implemented for the attendance of the learning participants by recording
the time of attendance in and out of learning hours when faces are recognized.
