Abstract :
The automotive industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, so that the necessary supply of spare parts are of good quality, the use of steel-based automotive parts did have good mechanical properties, but poor corrosion resistance. It required a material that has mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance are aluminum matrix composites. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of particle volume fraction of reinforcement Al2O3 against violence, wear resistance and microstructure of the metal matrix composite alloy Al 5052 series and to determine the increase mechanical properties before and after the booster added Al2O3 particles. Research manufacture metal composite material using stir casting method with a temperature of 740 °C, 3000 rpm, and 2 minutes on Al alloy matrix amplifier series 5052 with Al2O3 particles. Then heated to a temperature of 500 °C and in doing hot forging. The experiments were performed by varying the particle volume fraction of 5% ; 7.5% ; 10% and a particle size of 270 mesh. From the test results showed that the addition of particle size and volume fraction of Al2O3 affect the mechanical properties and microstructure in the Al alloy matrix composites with the 5052 series. Hardness test Al2O3 particles with a volume fraction of 10% obtained a value of 146.2 HB, with the volume fraction of the abrasive test 10% obtained a value of 0.78 x 10-5 g/m. At the micro-structure the greater the volume fraction and particle size of Al2O3, grain size relatively more delicate and more equitable distribution of Al2O3 particles.
