Abstract :
Within substation there is a step-down voltage transformer 150kV to 20 kV that has a Y Y connection and on the intermediate voltage side the neutral point is grounded through resitance. the amount of ground resistance associated with intermediate voltage ground cable design especially involving the copper sleeve capability on the ground cable. The potential of the copper sleeve is equal to earth potential, so that when ground short-circuit fault happens, the fault current passes through the copper sleeve. When short-circuit occurs on the fault point, the voltage drops to almost zero, resulting in a substantial current flowing through distribution system to the fault point, further resulting in disturbance of the normal operation of electrical power system. Therefore to-ground current needs to be limited, adjusted with the copper sleeve capability of the cable. The limitation of the fault current is done by installing NGR (Neutral Grounding Resistor) on the neutral side of the transformer. Furthermore, necessarily followed by delay time setting of the Ground Fault Relay. The research method in this thesis uses quantitative methods, based on the calculations of short-circuit current value, it can be seen that NGR selection is fitting, as well as the GFR value compability and ground cable KHA according to curve. This thesis also includes economical comparison calculation from the intermediate votlage overhead transmission line installation and intermediate voltage cable without the NGR.
