Abstract :
Indonesia is a country with the largest asphalt reserves in the world. Besides that,
Indonesia is a tropical country that has high air temperatures what trigger
premature damage to asphalt, for that, asphalt with additional materials is needed
to be able to increase the durability. The added of material used is iron powder.
The addition of iron powder in CPHMA is for reduce iron waste and improve the
quality of asphalt which has stronger durability. This study aims to determine the
effect of iron filings on CPHMA with varying compaction temperature to the
Marshall characteristics. The addition such as 0%, 5%, and 10% levels.
Compacted with variations in temperature of 30°C, 60°C, 90°C, 120°C, and
150°C. The method used to mix CPHMA with iron powder which has been
weighed according to the plan level, then heated, compacted, soaked for 24
hours, weighed in water and saturated with water, soaked for 30 minutes at 60°C,
and finally in the Marshall test. Based on the Marshall test, the highest stability
value by include qualified the specifications is at the addition of 5% iron powder
with a solidification temperature of 120°C for 1436 kg, with a VFB value of 76%,
VIM 4%, VMA 18%, and a yield of 5 mm. Stability increased with each addition
of increase variated. In this study, the addition of iron powder can add stability
to CPHMA.
