Abstract :
Infrastructure development is currently growing very rapidly, for
example in the construction of roads, bridges, buildings and so on. Until now,
most of the infrastructure development in Indonesia uses concrete as a
construction material. In this study, candlenut shells were used as a substitute for
gravel and fly ash as a cement substitute. This study aims to determine the
compressive strength, split tensile strength and absorption of each percentage of
cement reduction due to fly ash substitution and the percentage of gravel
reduction due to candlenut shell substitution in the concrete mixture. The test
object was made with a 15 x 30 cm cylindrical mold. The percentage of gravel
reduction due to candlenut shell substitution was 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%. The
percentage of cement reduction due to fly ash substitution is 30%. The number
of concrete test objects made was 75 pieces. Tests were carried out at the age of
7 days, 14 days and 28 days for compressive strength and 28 days for absorption.
The results of this study indicate that the use of candlenut shells can replace some
of the gravel and the use of fly ash can replace some of the cement as the base
material for the concrete mixture. The candlenut shell substitution of 0%, 3%,
6%, 9% and 30% fly ash produced compressive strength at 28 days of age,
respectively, 25,477 MPa, 26,327 MPa, 27,082 MPa, 27,270 MPa, and 25.006
MPa. As for the split tensile strength of 2.524 MPa, 2.642 MPa, 2.713 MPa,
2.878 MPa, 2.902 MPa. The absorption is 0.328%, 0.332%, 0.485%, and
0.492%. From these results, the highest compressive strength value was
obtained, namely in variations of 4 substitutions of 30% fly ash and 6% candlenut
shells of 27.270 MPa. Meanwhile, the highest split tensile strength is in variation
5 with 30% fly ash substitution and 9% candlenut shell at 2,902 MPa. And the
highest absorption value was found in variations of 5 substitutions of 30% fly
ash and 9% candlenut shell of 0.492%.
