Abstract :
The use of a transformer in the long term will result in a decrease in the quality of the
insulator. When the transformer works under high load it will cause an increase in the
temperature of the transformer, with the increase in temperature it will cause water vapor
to appear so that the insulation will be contaminated by the water. The water contained in
the transformer will also cause corrosiveness to the conductors in the transformer, so that
these corrosive products will contaminate the transformer oil insulation. Contamination
of the insulation will cause the insulation resistance to decrease and cause the physical
properties of the insulation to be damaged due to the deposition of contaminants contained
in it. In other cases, decreasing the quality of the transformer will cause the value of the
dielectric strength of the insulating oil to decrease, due to the influence of contaminants.
In this study, a breakdown voltage test was carried out with the influence of contaminants
in which the contaminants used were distilled water, conductor powder and chemical carbon allotrope powder, with the test method using IEC 156 by comparing the results of the
test data with the 1982 SPLN with the test sample used was insulating oil. Mineral Shell
Diala B. From the test results obtained the more contaminants contained in the insulation
of the test oil the faster the breakdown voltage.
