Abstract :
The event of a mass blackout at that time was one of the consequences of the failure of an
electricity system. Therefore, we need a scheme or system that can protect the components
in the electrical energy generation system, one of which is a generator. This research was
conducted by modeling simulation using Simulink MATLAB. In this study, the
characteristics of the generator and the reverse power protection relay were tested against
a decrease in the value of the mechanical input. In this simulation, the researcher uses the
IEEE C37.102-2006 standard as a reference for the generator protection system. Tests
will be carried out in the form of varying mechanical input decreases. Starting from 0.8
PU up to -0.004 PU. From the simulation results, the characteristics of the generator's
active power output with a decrease in the value of the mechanical input are directly
proportional. From the test results, it is found that when the reverse power that occurs in
the generator exceeds -0.004 PU, the relay will detect a reverse power and then a 0.5
second delay time will be applied to prevent relay errors. In this modeling, a generator
with a capacity of 123 MW is also used to generate power.
