Abstract :
In a generator, the role of battery is very important to supply direct current source. When a battery is having damaged which makes it cannot be used again, then the role of the battery supply will decrease. This matter can cause the damaging of the equipments and the disturbance in electricity distribution. Essential loads are important equipments in a generator. These loads must be supplied by electrical energy in normal and abnormal condition (blackout). In order to supply the distribution of the direct current source?s needs, it needs tests and calculations of the battery capacity in supplying the needs of the essential loads. The DC system in PT. Indonesia Power Suralaya PGU Unit 6 is supplied by rectifier 400 V, where the battery and the rectifier are connected in parallel with with a load which is under normal conditions. Nevertheless, in an abnormal conditions (blackout), the battery will directly supply the essential loads in certain time. According to the test of battery capacity which last for 10 hours, the Unit 6 battery which has capacity in the amount of 1420 Ah, the value of the final voltage per cell is still above the minimum voltage, so that the battery can be said to be in good condition. With a battery capacity of 1420 Ah which supplies essential loads of 312 A, the battery can last for 3.62 hours or 3 hours 37 minutes.
