Abstract :
Medium voltage distribution system serves to distribute energy from the substation while the substation receives energy supply from the center through the transmission line. Medium voltage distribution system has a wide range and consists mostly of medium-voltage air lines, but in big cities widely used ground cable lines. Medium-voltage air lines (SUTM) range can reach hundreds of thousands of kilometers on the island of Java, SUTM generally enter the residential area so in the vicinity of many buildings or trees higher. This condition protects the SUTM against direct strikes from lightning, but the strike to the building or trees around the channel can cause induction surge to SUTM which can cause flashover causing phase noise to the ground. This can cause a power outage, but this can be minimized. Therefore, the reliability of power distribution system should be improved. One of the efforts is by increasing the protection of electric power system by using ground wire for the purpose of improving the reliability of distribution system at SUTM. This thesis focuses on the effect of the using of ground wire on SUTM reliability. In this thesis will be discussed the using of ground wire in SUTM which will reduce the trend of disturbances in the rainy season and induction stroke disturbances from 49 disturbances to 31 disturbances..
