ABSTRACT
This study aims to identify the effect of temperature changes the value of the breakdown voltage of air insulation. test method is a breakdown test with reference to the standard IEC 60052 (2002). the test temperature drop set from 40ºC, 35ºC, 30ºC, 25ºC, 20ºC using test media for the electrodes of needles, rods, balls, with variations in the distance of the electrodes 1cm, 2cm, 3cm. Based on the results of the breakdown test, there decrease in the value of the breakdown voltage of the air insulation when the temperature rises at of 40ºC with a breakdown voltage of 35.86 kV, while the value of the breakdown voltage of the air insulation increases when the temperature drop at 20ºC is at 42,65 kV, the difference there is a decrease in temperature. the breakdown voltage 1,70 kV, the effect of variations the shape of electrode and distance will result in an increase value of the breakdown voltage the air insulation seen in the ball with a needle difference of 7,78 kV and the effect of distance has difference of 11,82 kV. So recommendation for using air insulation cold temperatures is good, namely using a distance and electrode of more than 1cm.
