Abstract :
To prevent failure of work on the transformer, it can be done with transformer maintenance, namely using liquid insulation or transformer oil which acts as an insulating medium and cooling medium. Impurities or contaminants in the transformer oil cause the value of the breakdown voltage of the oil to decrease and affect the characteristics of the transformer oil. In this study, the authors want to find an alternative to improve the quality of transformer oil by adding phenol additives which contain acid and have antioxidant properties to bind and remove contaminant particles contained in transformer oil. The author conducted a test by adding a phenol content of 40 ml, 45ml, 50 ml. For the test parameters, the authors take the breakdown voltage, density and viscosity tests. The addition of contaminants in the form of 8 grams of rust powder and 8 ml of rain water. The results obtained, used insulating oil with the addition of phenol showed an increase in the voltage value that complies with SPLN 49-1: 1982, namely 40 kV/2.5. Phenol additives were able to increase oil samples that had decreased in quality, with the highest breakdown voltage value of 48.57 kV; the highest density of 1.01 g/m³ and the highest viscosity of 20.01 cSt.
