Abstract :
The excitation system is a system used to supply rotor coils excitation current. When the
rotor is turned by the prime mover, the stator coils will experience an induced emf. The
size of the provided excitation current is controlled by the AVR. The AVR does not
regulate the current directly, but rather the firing angle. When the firing angle value is
too big, the resulting excitation current is smaller so that there is the possibility for
underexcitation, whereas if the firing angle value is too low, the excitation current
generated is greater so that there is the potential for overexcitation. In addition to
influencing the excitation current, firing angle also impacts the excitation voltage and
terminal voltage in an inversely proportional manner. In the excitation system of PLTGU
unit 3.1 PT. PJB UP Gresik, it was discovered that the firing angle varies with the rise in
load. With this knowledge, the researchers used Simulink to model a static excitation
system for their investigation. There are two types of testing conducted: variable and
constant loads. The results of the load simulation test vary based on the load data in
March 2022, the firing angle an the generator operates between 57,3910? and 71,9608?,
but the constant load test at peak load varies between 60? and 70?.
