Abstract :
Mayang Urai is a video dance work inspired by the figure of Princess
Mayang Urai. Mayang Urai is a mythical figure in Teluk Mayang Village, Central
Kalimantan. Mayang Urai is a figure who is famous for his beauty, power,
gentleness, and wisdom. Knowing the kindness, fair attitude, and magic of
Mayang Urai, it has become the decision of the villagers to choose Mayang Urai
to become Damang who has the ability to heal the sick.
This video dance work was created in the form of a single choreography
using a dramatic dance type that will bring out the character and atmosphere that
matches the figure of Mayang Urai. The dramatic type is visualized through
movements per part of the dance work that give the impression of the character of
Mayang Urai. This Mayang Urai Video dance work uses the creation method of
Alma Hawkins to create movements that originate from the basic motifs of kinyah
Bawi dance movements, and Nasai Lemu Lambai. The development of these two
movements is carried out by means of exploration, improvisation to find variants
of the shape and sense of movement according to the dance theme, then composed
into a Mayang Urai Video dance work, and evaluation is needed to sort out and
improve the Mayang Urai Video dance work. The spirit and character of Mayang
Urai are indirectly interpreted through the formation of the character of the stylist
himself. As for the technique of taking one shot video by tracking shots and
moving.
Mayang Urai became the embodiment of the character of the figure of
Princess Mayang Urai in the creation of this work danced by the arranger
himself. The understanding of the figure of Putri Mayang Urai was processed and
arranged which then resulted in new movements in the video dance work and
supporting aspects of the work. The creation of this work had a positive impact on
the stylist's morning in terms of developing a more creative literary integrity.
Through this work, the arranger also gets to know more about the figure of
Mayang Urai and can even introduce the figure of Princess Mayang Urai to
readers. This work is 7 minutes 50 seconds long.
