Abstract :
Gajah Sumatera (Elephas maximus sumatranus) merupakan salah satu jenis mamalia
besar subspesies Gajah Asia yang menjadi endemic pulau Sumatera. Gajah Sumatera
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) mengkategorikan Gajah
TNWK bersama Komunitas
Hutan Sumatera (KHS) melakukan berbagai upaya untuk menangani permasalahan
yang ada hingga saat ini. Salah satu bentuk kerjasama TNWK bersama KHS yaitu

The Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is a type of large mammal, the
Asian elephant subspecies, which is endemic to the island of Sumatra. The Sumatran
elephant is one of the protected animals and requires conservation activities. The
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categorizes the Sumatran
elephant in the Red List category with critically endangered status. An increase in
human population can directly or indirectly result in conflict between humans and
wildlife in an area. The main factor that is one of the points of conflict is the
simplification of the ecosystem and deforestation and environmental degradation in
elephant pockets. Way Kambas National Park (TNWK) is home to animals, especially
the Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus). TNWK together with the
Sumatran Forest Community (KHS) have made various efforts to deal with the
problems that exist to date. One form of collaboration between TNWK and KHS is
assisting the Elephant Response Unit (ERU) program in providing conflict relief and
protecting forest areas. By looking at the existing problems, this research was carried
out with the aim of (1) Knowing the activities of the Elephant Response Unit in
managing tame elephants in handling negative interactions, and (2) Knowing the
Elephant Response Unit Program in handling negative interactions. This research was
conducted using the interview observation method and the herding method. The
analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of this research are (1) Elephant
activity is a main indicator for elephants being able to carry out conflict management
activities and improve the immune health of tame elephants and (2) ERU programs
and activities in handling conflict and protecting forest areas are very effective. This
can be seen from ERU's routine success in preventing conflict and handling illegal
activities carried out by the community
