Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to determine the role of pretrial judges in giving legal protection of the rights of suspects criminal cases. This research used a method of normative legal research analyst with the descriptive approach used to find and determine the basic consideration in analyst the role of pre-trial judges in giving legal protection of the rights of suspects criminal cases. Basic legal arrangements that are used to determine the role of pre-trial judge is the Book of the Law of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP). Data collection methods used are the documentation and study of literature as well as observation and attention to the case of pretrial that ever happened and has been dissolved so it has a legally enforceable. The results showed the role of pre-trial judge in providing legal protection for the rights of suspects criminal case (a) perform testing of legitimate or not an arrest and detention, (b) perform testing of legitimate or not a termination of the investigation or prosecution, (c) deciding compensation and rehabilitation for someone who criminal case stopped at the level of investigation or prosecution
