Abstract :
he free trade era which will officially soon take place, compels the construction practitioner to improve and prepare themselves competing with domestic competitors and foreign competitors. There are a number of factors that could be prepared by contractors such as Man, Money, Method, Material and Machine. The aim of this study is to find out the perceptions of contractors towards the condition that happened on free trade era. Beside that, the condition of construction business were studied based on the five of M which are Man, Money, Method, Material and Machine. The other things that were studied through the distributing of questionnaires was the perception industry to face the free trade era which also were studied based on the five of M. The research was run through distributing of questionnaires to 46 respondents with detail as follows : 13 were collected from Jakarta, four (4) from Batam, two (2) from Bali, four (4) from Yogyakarta, six (6) from Semarang, two (2) from Surabaya and 15 from North Celebes. All of the perceptions of respondent were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.Based on the result the data analysis, it could be concluded that the domestic construction industry still need time to improve and prepare themselves while they maintain the performance that has proved successful for be able to face the rush of foreign competitors and also to be the good leader in their country, so that the Indonesia construction industry will be ready to face the globalization.
