Abstract :
The mindset that states the wife should submit to her husband and violence committed by a husband agains his wife is a disgrace, that still take place and live in society. Lack of awareness of wife and society to report acts of violence and knowledge about women?s rights become the main causes of the increasing of domestic violence. This thesis aims to determine the reason wife need to be protected and the party who has the primary responsibility to provide protection to wives whom experienced violence by husband. The type of research used in this legal research is normative research, the research focuses on the positive law in the form of legislation and this research require secondary data as the main data. Based on the results of interviews conducted by the author to many interviewees can be concluded that in principle everyone has the right to get protection including wife, and the country or the government has the primary responsibility to ensure the protection of these rights.
