Abstract :
Sentence fragment is one of the common errors made by the students in college level. Sentence fragment is incomplete sentence that deals with clause and phrase. This research is aimed to identify and investigate grammatical errors in students? essay. It is a descriptive qualitative case study. 15 students in college level of English Language Education become the participant of this study. The results of this study showed that the most type of fragment made by the students was Dependent Clause Fragment. The other errors made were; Omission of Subject, Omission of Subject and Verb, Appositive, List Fragment and Omission of Verb. The source of error based on expert are in intra-lingual error and inter-lingual. Moreover, based on in-depth interview, it was found lack of comprehension, lack of preparation, lack of time, and translated writing as the sources of errors.
