Abstract :
In social life, people used a language to make a conversation. This activity has a purpose for people to share or expressed their ideas and feelings. Although, in some cases, the listener could not got the utterance meaning. In the linguistic field, there was pragmatics which concerned the study of language meaning. One of the theories in pragmatics was the cooperative principle that deals with the principles of utterance meaning. In the part of cooperative principles, there was flouting maxim that explained how people did not followed those principles in conversation. Sometimes in a conversation, speakers hide the massage of utterance for some reason. This case not only happened in real conversation but also in a movie. By that reason, it was interested to choose Spider-Man: Into Spider-Verse movie to analyze the flouting maxim. This research aimed to find the types of maxims that were flouted in Spider-Man: Into Spider-Verse and to find the reason by the dialogues between Miles and his parents and Miles between Peter. This research was the qualitative method. The data source was using the original movie and the movie script. From the result of data, it was found four types of flouting maxim, they are: flouting maxim of quantity, flouting maxim of quality, flouting maxim of relevance and flouting maxim of manner. For the reason in flouting the maxim there were four reason such as: ?representatives?, ?commissives?, ?directives? and ?expressives?.
