Abstract :
In the field of production and fabrication, the cutting process is one of the main
processes, where after designing a product, the next step is to realize the design.
In realizing the design consists of several processes, one of which is the process
of cutting materials' both in the form of plates and pipes. plasma cutting which
aims to get the optimal cut. One of the most efficient cutting tools is Plasma
cutting, the plasma cutting mechanism uses ionized gas and is flowed at very
high temperatures which are usually used in cutting metals such as stainless
steel, titanium alloys, copper, magnesium, iron, steel and aluminum. Of the
various materials used for cutting, this copper material has soft and clayey
properties, conducts heat and electricity well, has the readiness to form mixtures,
is more evenly distributed during cooling, can be worked on in hot or cold
conditions, has resistance to the effects of corrosion from the air. This research
method is by collecting data from the internet, reference books and relevant
journals related to the research topics discussed, for the cutting process, namely
from end to end of the material 15 cm long and 4 mm thick using manual plasma
cutting, testing was carried out 3 times for each amperage, in the 40 A current
test, the average cutting time was 1 minute 79 seconds with an average speed of
1.8 mm / s, while for a current of 50 A, the average cutting time was 1 minute 84
seconds, with an average speed of 1.7mm / s. The cutting process was carried
out 3 times for each amperage.
