Abstract :
The conventional wing of PUNA Cargo is designed without a winglet structure. This causes its operation to have a large induced drag in the form of air vortices made by the movement of air flow from an area of high pressure (lower wing) to an area of low pressure (upper wing) collected at the tip of the wing(wing tip) In the interest of increasing the flying ability of PUNA cargo, this study examined the effect of adding a whitcomb winglet structure to the aerodynamic performance of the PUNA cargo wing using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. In addition, the analysis in this study was carried out on each variation of the simulated angle of attack, so that it can be seen how the aerodynamic performance value of the cargo wing of PUNA without and with the winglet structure in each variation of the simulation angle of attack. After the CFD simulation was performed, the aerodynamic performance values of the cargo wing of PUNA without additional winglet structure were 4,46 for AoA 0°; 22,61 for AoA 6°; 14,19 for AoA 12°; and 14,48 for AoA 18°; Meanwhile, the aerodynamic performance values of the cargo wing of PUNA with the addition of awinglet structure were 4.83 for AoA 0°; 21.56 for AoA 6°; 13,49 for AoA 12°; and 6.11for AoA 18°. Based on these results, the aerodynamic performance of the cargo wing of PUNA tends to be better if it is not equipped with a winglet structure.
