Abstract :
This research discusses the code switching spoken by children in multilingual society. Code switching is the ability on the part of bilinguals to alternate effortlessly between their two languages (Bullock & Toribio, 2009). The object of this research is Gempi, 8 years old girl that live in Jakarta with her mother Gisela. Gempita Nora Marten as known as Gempi is one of the famous kid in Indonesia. The data of this research is a conversation between Gempi and her mother with the setting is in her home. The source of the data is from Instagram platform.
This research is using qualitative method and it is analyzed using identity method and sociolinguistics approach. The researcher focus on code switching spoken by Gempi on the Instagram TV shared by Gisela. This research aims to find and describe the types of code-switching and the factors that influence Gempi to use code-switching. The types of code switching using theory conducted by Shana Poplack; intra sentential code switching, inter sentential code switching, and tag switching. The factors of code switching theory by Janet Holmes; participants, solidarity, status, topic, and switching for affective function. This method and theory became the basis for analyzing the existing problems.
The result of this research, there is two of three types of code switching that Gempi use; intra sentential code switching and inter sentential code switching. Researcher did not find the existence of tag switching used by Gempi on the data. Moreover, for all the factor of code switching was influence Gempi to use the code switching .
