Abstract :
Materials development involves the process of planning, creating, and refining instructional materials with the aim of providing effective and relevant resources for the learning process in a class of students with different backgrounds. The present study aims to identify the needs of the students at SDN Ujungberung II in learning English and to develop English teaching materials for students as young learners (TEYL) at SDN Ujungberung II from the perspective of differentiated learning. This study explores how the design of teaching materials can cover the students? need and teachers? instruction design in the classroom.
Data were taken from interview resulting in needs assessment. The participants of this study were one teacher who teach English in elementary school and 5 students. This design-based research (ADDIE) was used starting from analysis, design, development, implementation.
The finding showed that teaching materials match the students? need and revised materials might facilitate the different students? learning style and differentiated learners. The validity of the module's results from experts reached 87% ('Good' category). This study implies that these teaching materials need to be implemented in the context of beginners of language learning. This study also contributes to the body of knowledge in differentiated learning framework.
