Abstract :
This research conducts an in-depth appraisal analysis of the main character dialogue in ?Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) Movie?. Applied appraisal theory in this movie is important as it helps to understand the main character?s attitude and the intensity of the emotion conveyed through the main character?s dialogue. This research focused on the main character?s dialogue in this movie because the movie narrative emphasizes the main character's bravery, the researcher aims to find out the main character's characterization in this research by analyzing the positive or negative attitude and how strong or weak the feeling conveyed in the dialogue of the main character. This research applied Systemic Functional Linguistics as a theoretical approach, appraisal attitude, and graduation theory as a theoretical framework. The objective of this research is to identify the types of attitude and graduation in the main character dialogue in this movie. The data of this research is the words, phrases, clauses, and sentences of the main character?s dialogue in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 2022 Movie. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected data by downloading, watching, and categorizing the main character?s dialogue into a table. The data was analyzed by selecting, classifying, and concluding from the data analysis results. The researcher found 333 data, 137 positive attitudes, and 196 negative attitudes. The attitude types show 314 affect, 13 judgement, and 6 appreciation. For graduation types, there are 115 process, 79 quality, 50 up-scale, and 283 down-scale. The most common types that appear in attitude and graduation analysis are positive security and process downscaling, it concludes that Puss as the main character is not only a brave and confident hero but also a smart and adaptable problem-solver.
