Abstract :
Illocutionary act is an act performed in saying something. In another words, Illocutionary act is an utterance with some kind of function in mind. This study discussed about the use of Illocutionary Act to determine the lyric of the song?s meaning. The aims of this study were to find out the types of illocutionary acts based on song lyrics in Fine Line album by Harry Styles using Searle (1969) theory and to find out the functions of illocutionary acts using Leech (1993) theory.
This study uses a qualitative method. The data source in this research is Fine Line album. The main data of this research are the lyrics of 10 songs in the Fine Line album. The supporting data of this research are website, journal, YouTube, etc. which are related to this research. To collect data, researchers used Sudaryono's theory, namely the documentation method. To analyze data, researchers used descriptive methods. Based on the analysis, researcher found 30 data containing the type of illocutionary act and the function of the illocutionary act. The 30 data of sentences are further divided into 4 types of illocutionary acts and 4 functions of illocutionary acts. The findings and results of types illocutionary acts are 13 assertive, 8 directives, 4 expressive, and 5 declaratives. The findings and results of functions of illocutionary acts are 6 competitive, 2 convivial, 14 collaboratives.
