Abstract :
Students generally have several cases when they try to form a sentence, paragraph, or text as one example in writing an exposition text. Exposition writing refers to a type of writing that aims to explain, describe, inform, or clarify ideas and information. This research aims to determine students' abilities and find out what obstacles students experience in writing analytical exposition texts at SMA Negeri 1 Mori Atas. This research was conducted in class XI MIPA 2, and it involved 30 students. This research uses descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. The instruments used in this research were writing tests and interviews. Data collection in this research was done to obtain valid data, so researcher used an Based on the results of the data, the study found in Content has 21.8 points with good criteria. The organization has 14.8 points with criteria good to average. In vocabulary, research got 15.53 points with criteria good to average. Language use has 18 points with criteria good to average. The last mechanic has 3.3 points, which is fair to poor. Based on the results of interviews with students, the study found several obstacles. There are some students who do not like English because it is very difficult for them, but there are also some other students who like English. In this case, they still have difficulties, for example, difficulties in constructing sentences, lack of vocabulary that they know, and some of them lack interest in writing English.
