Abstract :
This research was meant to analyze the expressive speech acts in utterance used by the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. The objectives of this research are to describe the types, the most frequent expressive speech acts found in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie and also to explain the implication of expressive speech acts found in Spider-Man: No Way Home movie to English Foreign Language (EFL) learners in understanding expressive speech acts for attitudes.
This research is used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from the utterances of the characters that contained expressive speech acts, by using these steps; (1) downloading the script from the internet (2) watching the movie on Netflix (3) collecting the data (4) validating the data (5) classifying the data using Searle theory.
The findings of the research shows there are six types of expressive speech acts, there were Expressive of Thanking comprises 30 utterances, Expressive of Apologizing that consists of 37 utterances, Expressive of Congratulating which comprises 7 utterances, Expressive of Greeting which comprises 33 utterances, Expressive of Wishing which consists of 11 utterances, and Expressive of Attitudes which consists of 74 utterances is the most frequent expressive speech acts found in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. The results show that this study can be applied to senior high school as teaching material in basic competence 3.2 and 4.2 of eleven grade about asking and giving opinion
