Abstract :
Early Warning Score (EWS) is a device to identify patients' worsening conditions with a simple scoring system to improve safety and prevent patient emergency conditions. Timeliness, competence, and knowledge of nurses in conducting EWS assessments could change patient safety. Delays and inaccuracies in the use of EWS lead to aggravating the patient's condition with an increased risk of death. Therefore, it requires a rapid and accurate response time. Response time is a rate indicator in patient handling calculated from the patient arrives time or experiences a decrease in condition until medication. Consequently, all actions during emergency conditions must be truly effective and efficient. The study intended to determine the relationship between nurses' knowledge about Early Warning Score (EWS) and nurses' response time in managing emergency patients in the Emergency Room. This study adopted an analytic observational method with a cross-sectional design. The sample was 30 nurses who work in the emergency room of RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta by the total sampling technique. Spearman's rho test obtained a p-value of 0.626 (p<0.05). Therefore, Ha was rejected, and Ho was accepted. It implied no significant relationship between the nurse's knowledge of the Early Warning Score (EWS) variable and the nurses' response time in handling emergency patients. The results of this study expect nurses to preserve and enhance Early Warning Score (EWS) knowledge and the implementation of nurse response time in managing emergency patients. Keywords: Early Warning Score, Response Time, Emergency. Bibliography: 96 (2008-2021).
