Abstract :
Background: Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder that occurs in children with an age of 1 to 3 years characterized by disability of social interaction, communication, and behavior. The incidence in Indonesia, 2015 reached 134,000 children. This condition required the father to take care his children more intensively. The care that everyday father gives to his child created a new experience for the father in caring the autistic children. Aim: This study aimed to explore in depth the role of father care in the development of autistic children at YPAC Palembang. Method: This study used qualitative research method with phenomenology approach, data obtained from in-depth-interviews by 4 participants. Result: The Result of this study were nine themes obtained, 1) father's feeling of having an autistic children, 2) father's actions to know the condition of the child with autism, 3) father?s involvement in fulfilling the needs of the autistic children, 4) father's actions in caring for the autistic children 5) father?s role obstacles in caring for autistic children, 6) father's concerns in the development of autistic children, 7) father's hope about grow of autistic children, 8) sources of father support, 9) the kind of support that father received. Based on result of the study, YPAC Palembang expected to organize educational program for father of autistic children and cooperate with father to open the talent distribution program of autistic children.
