Abstract :
Background: Parents have an important role to constitute the behavior of their
children. Indirectly attitudes and behaviors of parents who are permissive and
authoritarian to children can cause children to tend behave aggressively.
Aggressive behavior by adolescent has increased, was indicated by so many
participation of adolescents in riot actions, war, demonstrations, and all the acts of
violence that can demage everything like material loss, social, and victims, so that
a lot of mass media always have news about violence who have done by adolescents.
Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting style and
aggressive behavior of adolescent class VIII in SMP Mardi Wacana Palembang.
Method: This study used quantitative research with Cross Sectional design. The
sample consisted of 109 respondents with Total Sampling technique and used
statistic Kendall Tau test.
Result: Majority of respondents with authoritative parenting is 98 (89,9%) and
aggressive behavior with active aggressive that is 58 (53,2%). Kendall Tau test
results obtained there is a relationship between parenting style with aggressive
behavior of adolescent with p-value = 0,044 and r = -0,191 which means very low
correlation coefficient with a negative direction. Based on this research, researcher
suggest so that parents to give and apply parenting style that consistent and
assertive for reduce and overcome behavior problems of children.
