Abstract :
Background: Caring is the foundation of professional nursing practice, caring
based on caring is able to improve the quality of health services, its application is
integrated with biophysical knowledge and knowledge of human behavior can
improve individual health and facilitate the provision of services to patients.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a special hospital unit with special staff and caring
process through SISTEREST chairman's values of Spirituality, Integrity,
Stewardship, Trust, Excellence, Respect, Empathy, System. Caring Nurse in ICU
is very needed considering the high level of dependency of patient reach 95 -
99%. Purpose: This study aims to determine the description of caring nurses ICU
RS.RK Charitas Palembang
Method: This study used descriptive survey method with total sample of 40
respondents of ICU nurses. Data collection was conducted using Swanson
questionnaire through 5 caring process namely maitaining belief, knowing, being
with, doing for and enabling.
Results: The results of this study were 22 respondents (55%,) assessed caring for
ICU nurses, 17 respondents (42.5%) assessed caring for ICU nurses enough and 1
respondent (2.5%) assessed caring for less ICU nurses. To improve caring then
can conduct periodic supervision for caring and mamasukan implementation as
the standard of nursing work appraisal, because caring is one of core of nursing.
