Abstract :
Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacilus. Specimens used in microscopic smear examination are sputum. The results of microscopic smear examination affect the quality of sputum related to the handling of sputum specimens. Sputum specimens must be examined immediately, <24 hours. This study aims to determine the difference in the degree of positivity of BTA in sputum which is immediately examined and delayed for 12 hours at room temperature (23-25 °C). Methods: This type of research is a pre-experiment with a type of Pretest and Posttest One Group. The subjects of this study were 20 respondents who were patients who examined sputum at Sarolangun Health Center who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Samples that come to the Laboratory are immediately examined to determine the degree of positivity. When the sample is positive, a delay is made by storing the sample at room temperature for 12 hours and then checking it again to see if there are differences in the degree of positivity between the immediately examined and delayed for 12 hours. The examination method used is Microscopic. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a confidence level of 95%. Results: Examination of positivity of BTA which is immediately checked and postponed for 12 hours at room temperature has obtained a median value of 1+ with a minimum value of 1+ and a maximum value of 3+. The statistic test results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test did not differ in the degree of positivity of the BTA that was immediately examined and the positive degree of BTA delayed for 12 hours at room temperature with a probability value (sig 2 tailed) 1,000> 0.025. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that there is no difference in the positive degrees of BTA that are immediately examined and the positivity of BTA which is delayed for 12 hours at room temperature.
