Abstract :
Background: The number of cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia is increasing, the virus is more dangerous in the elderly group who are vulnerable to being exposed to the Covid-19 virus due to weakened immune systems with age. Good behavior can reduce the impact of risk in preventing the transmission of Covid-19 by implementing the 5M health protocol and the role of family support and responsibility for the health of oneself and the elderly. Objective: This study was to determine the relationship between family support and the behavior of the elderly in implementing the 5M health protocol during the Covid-19 pandemic in Kelurahan 26 Ilir Palembang. Methods: This study uses quantitative methods, analytical survey design with a cross sectional approach. The sample is 53 respondents, taken by Total Sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire, then analyzed by univariate and bivariate. Data were analyzed using Kendall'Tau correlation analysis using a significant value of 5%. Results: The results of this study univariately show that the majority of respondents with a median age of 66 years old, female 27 (50.9%), high family support 46 (86.8%), elderly behavior in implementing Covid-19 34 (64, 2%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between family support and the behavior of the elderly in implementing the 5M health protocol (? = 0.292; p = 0.035). Suggestion: For the elderly and their families, it is hoped that they can increase their role in improving the quality of life and make it easier to take care of themselves, one of which is wearing masks, washing hands or using hand sanitizers, wearing face shields for the elderly.
