Abstract :
Speaking is one of the basic skill in learning English and survey class
is one of creative techniques to teach speaking because by using survey
class technique students have to speak with their friends in order to complete the
task. It is an applied technique at fifth grade of SD YPI Darussalam Cerme. This
research aims to observe the implementation of teaching speaking by using
survey class technique to the fifth grade of SD YPI Darussalam Cerme and also to
know students? responses of learning speaking by using survey class technique.
This study is to describe the implementation of survey class technique in
teaching speaking and students? responses of learning speaking by using survey
class technique and produce the theory related to the using of survey class
technique in teaching speaking. The study is done on 16th November 2015 to 4th
January 2016. This study uses descriptive qualitative, the methods of collecting
the data in this research are observation and interview.
After analyzing data, the researcher draws some conclusion, the first is
the implementation of teaching speaking, there are some steps in implementating
survey class, those are; first, the teacher reviews the previous material taught
before. Second, she provides survey type questions in form of table. Third, she
gives example how to excuse, how to ask and answer. Fourth, she drills students
until students understand the pattern in asking and questioning, then, she explains
the rules of the activity, Fifth she lets students to mill around asking their friends,
then noting the answer, after that she gives score to the students activity while she
is checking the students? problems. Finally, she asks students to present the their
survey result in front of the class.
The second, the students? responses related to the use of survey class
technique in learning speaking. It could be concluded that most students gave
positive response toward survey class in learning speaking because they were
keen and interested with this technique. It could be seen when they are doing
survey class, they always followed teacher?s rules and instruction, and they were
enthusiastic in asking their friends interest, idea or opinion in doing survey class
activities.
Finally in order to develop the finding of this study, the researcher
suggests the teacher to be more creative to find an interesting topic and for the
next researchers, they probably conduct the research with different skills, subject,
and education stages in order to see the effectiveness of the technique applied.
