Abstract :
So far, the tendency of mathematics teachers are less to optimize the
thinking ability of mathematics students in learning, especially the thinking
ability of high-level, that is reflective thinking. Reflective thinking ability is an
ability to connect the knowledge that obtained to solve the new problems related
to old knowledge in order to get a conclusion. One activity to find out how much
reflective thinking ability of learners is to solve the math problems.
The type of this research is descriptive research. The aims of this study are
to describe the students' reflective thinking ability in solving math problems. The
subjects of this study are the students of VIII-B class at SMP Negeri 2 Cerme in
academic year 2016/2017 with the total of 30 students. The instruments of this
study consisted of writing tests in the form of 4 essay questions and interview
guides.
The results of data analysis in this study found that, reflective thinking
ability of learners in good enough category with 17 students or 56,7%, good
category with 10 students or 33,3% and less category with 3 students or 10%. So
in this case the ability of reflective thinking learners need to be improved again
both in students and teachers of mathematics subjects
