Abstract :
English is important thing to be learned. Learning English is difficult if the
students do not study from the child. The introduction of English at the primary
level is a strategic decision that needs to be supported by all parties. Listening is
an active process in which the receiver assumes a responsibility. It also calls for a
response on the part of the listener. Such response may be a replay, an action, a
facial expression and applause, something indicating that the message has been
assimilated. The researcher found that the students passive in listening activity.
So, the researcher solved it with used CALL (Computer Assisted Language
Learning) which was by made J-Quiz Hot Potatoes. According to the Background
above, the problem statement was How was the listening material by using CALL
(Hot Potatoes) at the eight grade of SMP Islam Mambaul Ulun Kebomas
developed.
Next, about the process of development, in this case the researcher used
ADDIE model. First, analyz students need and problem in listening material.
Second, researcher designs the material that appropiate with the syllabus,
curriculum, coursebook, etc, by using J-Quiz Hot Potatoes. Third, development of
the material researcher would developed listening material using CALL. Fourth,
expert validation in this case there were English teachers in SMP Islam Mambaul
Ulum Kebomas. Fifth, development of the expert validation, researcher got some
critics, input for her final product. Sixth, try out researcher did try out listening
material using CALL in SMP Islam Mambaul Ulum Kebomas. Seventh, the
researcher would did final product by using CALL (J-Quiz Hot Potatoes) for
listening material.
Researcher hopes this study more function; for students, to offer new
thing in learning English especially in listening and also the way to operate
computer. For readers, it could motivate them to develop into other method and
give contribution for people who teaches in learning process. The last, for futher
researcher, this product could be taken into action research to find out effect of
implementing this product in listening learning.
