Abstract :
Asian Economic Community (AEC) makes many foreigners come to
Indonesia. When there are women gets problem about her pregnancy or her
children they will come to midwife to consultation. From that consultation a
midwife tries to communicate uses English which is the international language
that commonly uses by foreigners. Furthermore, learning English is not easy and
to solve the problem so, the researcher will use midwifery English module to help
the learners achieve better.
The researcher used research and development as the research design that
employs an ADDIE instructional design model to develop English of midwifery
students. The research was conducted in Midwifery at Academy of Delima
Persada Gresik in the third semester with thirty three students. The steps of this
research are: analyze, design, development ? expert validation, implementation,
evaluation and final product. Furthermore, this research used content-based
instruction as the approach that is connected to the teaching subject matter and
language.
The research result shows for need analyzes that has been carried out are:
first, the need analyzes of questionnaire?s results are most of them said that the
students like to use medical equipment, menstruation, pregnancy and
breastfeeding as the topic and discussion as the learning method. Second, the need
analyzes of interview?s results are they said that the midwifery students have lack
in listening skill, they need to develop their speaking and writing skill and they
prefer to study use discussion method. Then, the researcher made syllabus and
draft based on the need analyzes result. Besides, the researcher developed module
and asked to the English lecturer and midwifery lecturer at Academy of Delima
Persada Gresik to give comment and suggestion to the module. The result was the
English module has been good and clear or agree with the material. Further, the
researcher implemented the module to the three students by giving exercises
which continued to give questionnaire as the feedback. The result was the English
module has been good and clear or agree with the material.
The conclusion is the learners interest to learn English used midwifery
English module. The researcher gives recommendation for the next researcher
who intends to conduct the similar project to do the same research with different
level and focus. For the teacher, this product could be as combining when they
teach English with simple midwifery English material to the learners.
