Abstract :
Reasoning is a very important thing in learning mathematics. One way
of thinking is to use an analogy. Analogy can be used to help solve problems, if
students can use previously learned knowledge to solve new problems. Based on
the above, this research is done to describe how the students' reasoning ability to
solve the problem of flat wake up. To describe the thinking process of student
analogy in solving flat wake problem. This research is a qualitative descriptive
study. Data collection method used is in the form of analogue test and interview 6
students of class VII SMP Negeri 12 Malang. Based on the results of interviews
and student tests are grouped into 3 groups namely: a group of high analogy
students, a group of students of medium analogy, and a group of students with low
analogy skills. To know the analogy thinking process students in solving
mathematical problems is done by interviewing 2 students per group. The results
of the analysis showed that students with high analogy ability were able to
perform each stage of thinking process analogy well. While students whose
analytical skills tend to experience obstacles in some steps of analogous thinking
process, and students whose analogy ability is low steps - steps analogous
thinking process can not be done properly. Given the importance of analogy skills
in solving mathematical problems it is suggested that students' analogy skills in
solving mathematical problems need to be improved by using analogy reasoning
approaches in solving math problems.
